About ESPS Teachers

ESPS teachers are professional musicians and music educators who provide lessons in studios throughout Edmonton and surrounding communities. All teachers have a degree in music or have achieved RCM Level 10 and working towards their ARCT. To qualify to teach with Edmonton Suzuki Piano School, interested teachers must also have completed Suzuki Method-specific training, including Suzuki Volume 1, and follow an observation process with other ESPS teachers. ESPS teachers provide weekly individual and monthly group lessons.

Our teachers are the key to success at ESPS. They excel at connecting with our families and embracing our Suzuki community mindset. In addition, ESPS teachers focus on students’ personalities and progress as they develop individualized lesson plans.

About Our Community

ESPS provides administrative support and coordination so teachers can focus on teaching and playing music. ESPS also supports teacher contractors by organizing special events, offering parent education opportunities, and coordinating performance opportunities like recitals and graduations.  Teachers attend and assist at special events and should be interested in collaborating with the greater ESPS community.   Additionally, we provide professional development opportunities for Suzuki certification and other training opportunities and a built-in network of like-minded teachers who support each other.

About Suzuki Piano Lessons

Following the Suzuki approach, the piano is taught like a language, first by ear, learning sounds, matching music to keys, and then reading music. As students learn and grow, performances celebrate progress versus examinations to test skills. Suzuki piano lessons draw out each student's unique style and strengths, recognizing that every child's best can look different. Our Suzuki "triangle" supports each learner; the teacher, parent, and student work together to create a supportive and effective learning environment. Parents are essential to the process and receive coaching to support their children at practice time. The parent's involvement creates a support structure for the learner at home. In turn, the parent enjoys quality time with their child, strengthening the parental bond and providing a front-row seat to their progression.

The Suzuki approach develops essential  life skills for the student that will carry them far into the world: confidence, goal-setting, problem-solving, tenacity, perseverance and poise.
